It’s also in several banking apps, including potentially yours! You can download and use the Zelle app up until your bank or credit union starts to offer the service, so don’t worry if they don’t.
Although the service is seamlessly integrated as a money transfer service provider into many well-known financial institutions, if you bank with a less well-known bank or credit union, don’t worry — all you need to use Zelle, regardless of who you bank with, is an email address or mobile phone number.
Here’s how you can get started receiving money through Zelle in a few simple steps.
How to get money using Zelle?
1. If someone sent you money through Zelle, you’ll receive an email or text notification about the payment.
2. Click on the link in the email or text.
3. Download and the Zelle app in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (if you haven’t already), and click “Get started.”
4. Enter your mobile number or email, depending on how the transfer was sent, and select “Continue.”
5. Check the box regarding your data and privacy, then tap “Continue.”
6. On the “Find Your Bank” screen, search for your bank. If the institution that you bank with is listed, you’ll be redirected to complete the transfer on your bank’s website.
7. If you don’t see your bank listed, tap “Don’t see your bank?”
8. Enter a Visa or Mastercard debit card on the “Add Debit Card” screen and tap “Continue.”
9. Add your billing address on the next screen and click “Continue.”
You’re all set to receive the Zelle transfer, and any future transfers via Zelle, from here on out.
How long does it take with Zelle to receive money?
An enrolled user often has access to money delivered with Zelle within minutes.
Before you give money to your friends and family, ask them to sign up with Zelle so that they can get it more promptly.
When you give money to a non-Zelle member, they will get a notification asking them to sign up.
The first payment to your beneficiary after enrolment could arrive in 1 to 3 business days.
This is a Zelle security feature created to safeguard you whenever you send or receive money using Zelle.
Your beneficiary will be able to receive subsequent payments more quickly once their first one clears, usually in a matter of minutes.
If it has been longer than three days, we advise verifying that the recipient of your payment has signed up for Zelle and that your email address or U.S. mobile number was accurate.
If you’re awaiting payment, examine if you’ve received an email or text message with a payment notification.
We advise getting in touch with the sender to make sure they used the right email address or U.S. cell phone number if you haven’t gotten a payment notification.
What to do if your recipient never accepts their Zelle payment?
When a payment is sent with Zelle to an email address or mobile phone number, the recipient will have 14 calendar days to accept the payment.
If the payment is not accepted in time, it will be canceled and the full payment amount will be returned to your account.
Both you and your recipient will be notified that this has occurred.
Does Bank of America or Zelle offer a protection program?
Neither Bank of America nor Zelle offers a protection program for any authorized payments using Zelle.
Please keep in mind that while Zelle is a great way to send money to family, friends, and acquaintances you know and trust (like your personal trainer, roommate, babysitter, or neighbor), we advise against using Zelle for potentially risky transactions (for instance, if you don’t know the person) or if you aren’t confident you’ll get what you paid for (for example, items bought from an online bidding or sales site).
Can I Use Zelle With my Eligible Small Business Account?
Yes. Between approved domestic bank accounts at U.S. banking institutions that support Zelle, payments can be sent, requested, or received.
Start by selecting Begin Setup after logging into our Mobile Banking app or Online Banking.
You can use Zelle for your small business to send and receive payments by entering your email address or U.S. mobile phone number, obtaining and entering a one-time verification code, and accepting the terms and conditions.
When I have a small business checking or savings account, to whom can I send or receive payments?
When your bank supports Zelle for your account type, you can send or receive payments from other small businesses or consumers who are eligible.
The recipient needs to have a linked domestic bank account at a U.S. financial institution and be registered with Zelle.
Small businesses cannot sign up for the Zelle app using a debit card, nor can they transmit or receive payments from customers who have done so.
Who should I call when I have questions or need help?
- We advise against using Zelle to send money to people or companies you don’t know. No protection program is provided by Bank of America or Zelle for any permitted payments made through Zelle.
Transfers require enrollment in the service and must be made from an eligible Bank of America consumer or business deposit account to a domestic bank account.
Payment requests to persons or businesses not already enrolled in Zelle must be sent to a U.S. email address.
Recipients have 14 days to enroll to receive money or the transfer will be canceled.
Transactions typically occur in minutes when the recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile number is already enrolled with Zelle.
