Low latency and a battery life of up to 12 hours are two features of the $200 InZone Buds.
The first wireless earbuds designed just for gaming, the $199.99 InZone Buds, were just unveiled by Sony Electronics. According to the manufacturer, the earbuds are made to produce audio with the least amount of latency and to maximise battery life (with up to 12 hours of continuous usage). The new earphones will ship this month and preorders may start right now.
The PS5, PCs, and mobile devices are just a few of the electronics that the InZone Buds are compatible with. Most often, you’ll use the accompanying USB-C dongle to connect, which reduces latency to under 30 milliseconds. But if you own a recent high-end Android phone, the InZone Buds also enable Bluetooth LE Audio, which might be a useful inclusion.
The 360 spatial audio capabilities of these new earbuds are heavily promoted by Sony, but to get the most realistic experience out of them, you’ll need to take the following steps (and use certain software):
Using the 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer smartphone app, Sound Field Optimisation takes pictures of the user’s ears to produce a unique hearing profile. By playing test sounds from the driver units and utilising feedback microphones to measure how the sound fills the ear canal, the Sound Tone Personalization feature on the InZone Buds takes customization to the next level.
The sound is then uploaded onto the InZone Hub PC software based on the acoustic analysis, where more customizations can be made to create a totally unique spatial listening experience with unmatched spatial sound precision.
Sony developed the InZone Buds such that wearing them causes the least amount of pressure to your ears because they are meant to stay comfy over extended gaming sessions. They feature the same “Dynamic Driver X” acoustic architecture as Sony’s WF-1000X earbuds and come with four pairs of silicone ear tips, one of which is extra tiny.
Although you can use the InZone Buds for music and other non-gaming entertainment, according to what the manufacturer told me, they aren’t tuned for that. For circumstances when you would wish to use active noise cancellation or ambient sound modes, you still have those options.
The Pulse Explore earphones from Sony’s PlayStation division are about to go on sale, promising lossless music and a new PlayStation Link protocol that will enable them to link with the PS5 and PlayStation Portal with extremely low latency. You’d never guess that they both cost $199.99. On the other hand, the InZone Buds will have some native integration with the PS5 UX: you’ll be able to view their connection status, volume, battery life, and whether the microphone is muted.
