The software company’s shares fell by roughly 12% after Okta announced a breach in its customer support system on Friday that allowed some hackers to examine files uploaded by specific clients.
Chief Security Officer David Bradbury wrote in a blog post, “Okta security has identified adversarial activity that leveraged access to a stolen credential to access Okta’s support case management system.”
He omitted information about the clients who were impacted and the type of data that was exposed.
The business said that the production Okta service, which was still fully operating and unaffected, differed from its support case management system.
The San Francisco-based business serves a variety of clients, including Microsoft-backed OpenAI, by offering identity services like single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, which are used to check in to online programmes and websites.
Shares of Okta closed down 11.6% at $75.57.
