According to what we’ve found so far, the iPhone 13 will feature a 120Hz LTPO display on both Pro models, improved battery life thanks to a more efficient 5G modem, and significant upgrades to the all-important cameras. The cheaper iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, includes a LiDAR sensor as well as a new portrait video feature.
In terms of design, we’ve heard that the notch is diminishing, and at least one iPhone 13 model might feature a completely portless design. Actually, now that we’re charging MagSafe, it’s more than probable. There’s also a chance we’ll see an always-on display.

News On The iPhone 13 Price
According to Kwesi Afful’s study, Apple will once again sell four iPhone 13 sizes. You should expect a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max.
We expect these to cost the same as the iPhone 12 series, which means $699, $799, 999, and $1,099, respectively. Apple’s market structure continues to remain fairly consistent from generation to generation, so we don’t expect a price rise.
Design of the iPhone 13
The iPhone 13 design would also have a smaller notch, according to a recent leak from “industry sources.” Apple will reportedly accomplish this notch reduction by integrating the iPhone 12’s Face ID unlocking system’s currently separated infrared flood illuminator, camera, and dot projector into a single module. With two fewer sensors required, the iPhone 13 should have a much narrower notch.
In reality, the iPhone 13 design may be slightly thicker than the iPhone 12 to accommodate a larger battery.
The biggest change we can expect from the iPhone 13 is that one model will have a portless design, eliminating the Lightning port in favor of wireless charging and data transfer. That would be a significant departure from the iPhone 12,
but it could also signal a shift in the mobile industry away from ports and bundled chargers and cables. (With the iPhone 12, Apple made a similar mistake by not providing a charger with either of the phones.)
Given this, it’s likely that Apple will provide a way to integrate Face ID into the iPhone 13’s bezels. Last fall, leaker Ben Geskin shared a rendering on Twitter that showed how the gadget could function by embedding the entire TrueDepth system and earpiece into the handset’s top bezel.
Another rumor suggested that Apple would ditch the Face ID sensor technology found in the modern iPhone’s display notches. However, to retain the sensor technology, the iPhone 13 will have wider display bezels; take this leak with a dose of skepticism.
There will be an iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, but it’s unclear whether or not there will be an iPhone 13 mini.
Touch ID on the Apple iPhone 13
According to a Bloomberg article, Apple is working on an in-display fingerprint sensor for the iPhone 13. This will be in addition to Face ID.
According to a separate report in the Wall Street Journal, Apple will use a new in-screen optical fingerprint scanner to pull off Touch ID. Samsung phones use an ultrasonic scanner, but the point is that the optical variety would be more accurate in Apple’s implementation.
Cupertino has never released an iPhone with Face ID or Touch ID, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims Apple is considering using an in-screen fingerprint sensor in its 2021 smartphones.
According to Kuo, Apple views all biometric technologies as complementary and have the ability to function well together, so the iPhone 13 could feature both Face ID and Touch ID. Given that the current version of Face ID can’t identify people wearing masks, and Apple modified its iOS software to better fit users wearing masks, we believe Apple is at least considering how to put Touch ID back in a more streamlined manner.
The iPhone 13’s screen
If Apple sticks to four iPhone 13 models, the display sizes should be 5.4 inches, 6.1 inches, and 6.7 inches, respectively.
According to ET News, Apple will introduce a 120Hz refresh rate for the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. This will result in smoother scrolling as well as improved gameplay and video playback.
A more recent one, which stated that the two iPhone 13 Pro models will have the 120Hz display, which will be able to dynamically scale its refresh rate up or down depending on what is seen thanks to a Samsung Display LTPO screen, added credibility to that leak. This will further extend the battery’s life.
Since an LTPO panel doesn’t need any additional components under the display to allow an adaptive refresh rate, phones with such screens can have thin chassis. An LTPO display in the iPhone 13 could allow the phone to have a super smooth refresh rate while maintaining the iPhone 12’s neat frame.
According to recent news, the iPhone 13 would feature an always-on display, which could be aided by the LTPO app. And a new video shows how that could play out. An always-on display will eventually bring to Apple’s iPhones a feature that Android phones have had for some time.
Specifications for the iPhone 13
We should predict a chip update for the iPhone 13 over its predecessor, just as night follows day. This may come in the form of the A15 Bionic, a successor to the iPhone 12’s extremely powerful A14 Bionic.
This new system-on-a-chip (SoC) may be a good improvement for the A14 Bionic, as it will possibly improve overall performance and quality. A big update isn’t expected until the iPhone 14 when Apple could use a 4-nanometer process node to create a chip. The A14 Bionic chip in the iPhone 12 is currently a 5nm chip.
The iPhone 13 will, however, receive a significant boost in terms of wireless connectivity. According to documents from Apple’s Qualcomm settlement, Apple intends to use Qualcomm’s X60 5G modem in future iPhones, which would most likely include the iPhone 13.
This is important because the 5nm X60 modem can be directly integrated into a phone’s chipset, resulting in a smaller footprint and lower battery consumption. There’s also the chance that Apple will use Qualcomm’s recently announced X65 5G Medem, which can offer speeds of up to 10 Gbps — not that existing 5G networks can even come close to that.
Furthermore, since the modem can concurrently combine mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks, the 5G performance should be higher. Furthermore, the iPhone 13 is expected to have Wi-Fi 6E, a version of the Wi-Fi 6 standard that will support even faster wireless speeds.
iPhone 13 cameras
We haven’t learned much about the iPhone 13 lineup as a whole yet, but according to one report, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will feature a new 6-element ultrawide lens. It will also be capable of autofocus. A 5-element ultrawide angle lens is included in the latest iPhone 12 Pro models. In general, the more elements in a lens, the better the image quality.
According to one curious rumor, Apple is searching for suppliers for a “folded lens” camera that will boost the iPhone 13’s optical zoom. The telephoto lens is stacked vertically rather than horizontally because of the periscope-like design, allowing you to raise optical magnification without raising the phone’s size.
In reality, other phone manufacturers, such as Samsung and Huawei, use this design to boost their own optical zoom capabilities. It’s still uncertain which iPhone 13 models will get the enhanced zoom.
In the same vein as zooming, the iPhone 13 is expected to receive camera updates that will allow it to better capture the night sky and deliver portrait mode videos.
A dedicated astrophotography mode could be allowed by an upgraded ultra-wide camera on all iPhone 13 models. This mode will work when you point your phone at the stars or the moon, much as night mode does when you’re in a low-light world.
When Portrait video mode is allowed, video footage will have a blurred background. It will also reportedly allow you to adjust the depth of field after filming, allowing you to dial in the blurred effect after the fact. There are no details about whether this can be used on all or only a few of the iPhone 13’s cameras.
According to other sources, the iPhone 13’s camera will also receive a significant hardware upgrade. For instance, analyst Ross Young predicts that the new Apple phone would have larger sensors.
Larger sensors mean larger pixels, which means more light is absorbed, resulting in higher-quality images. Unfortunately, it’s unclear the iPhone 13s will be equipped with these sensors, though the iPhone 12 Pro Max debuted with a larger sensor in the fall.
The introduction of LiDAR sensors on the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, rather than only the Pro models, will be a final change. That is, at least, according to DigiTimes sources, who say that the advanced sensor will be included in all iPhones in 2021.
iPhone 13: Charging
The iPhone 12 will charge at a maximum of 20W, and there have been no rumors about this year’s charging speed. We have, however, received some bad news on the iPhone 13. According to Bloomberg, the iPhone 13 will most likely lack reverse wireless charging, which would have required it to charge AirPods Pro and Apple Watch.

- Better Camera Zoom: Apple needs to improve the iPhone’s photography capabilities while shooting from a distance, whether by hardware, software, or a combination of the two. Many smartphone users prefer an ultrawide lens, but when you can’t get close to your subject, a powerful telephoto lens is just as necessary.
Perhaps Apple could take a page from Google’s Super Res Zoom feature, which makes up for the lack of a high-powered periscope lens with clever algorithms. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has marginally enhanced things to 2.5x optical power, but we’d like to see at least 3x in future iPhones with telephoto lenses.
- 120Hz display: If you’ve never used a phone with one, you’ll notice that a quick refresh-rate display makes every scroll, tap, mission, and game feel far more sensitive than normal 60Hz panels.
If 120Hz is too expensive for battery life, we’d settle for 90Hz, but a faster refresh rate could make iOS feel even better than it already does. Unfortunately, this was another feature that was teased for iPhone 12 early on but never saw the light of day.
