The Chinese internet behemoth Xiaomi is apparently getting close to mass producing the Modena, its first electric vehicle. The vehicle, known as the codename MS11, was frequently shown in Xiaomi patent applications and certifications. Pictures of the Modena have been making the rounds on Chinese social media lately.
A sedan with frameless doors, concealed door handles, and a charging port at the back of the body is seen in the stolen photos. It is verified that this is, in fact, Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle by the presence of the Xiaomi branding on the speaker situated on the doors of the vehicle.
The Modena’s design shows that it has a fairly typical sedan form factor, much like the Tesla Model 3. The vehicle does, however, include some modern EV features, like frameless doors with pop-out handles and a charging station located in the back.
Although the Modena’s interior trunk seems somewhat conventional, the vehicle does have one distinctive feature: an integrated Xiaomi branding into the in-door speaker. This implies that instead of co-branding with a partner like Harman, Xiaomi intends to employ its own first-party audio system in the vehicle.
It is planned for Xiaomi to release their first electric vehicle in 2024. We’ll keep you informed as things develop.
