At the ‘Open for Everything’ event on October 27, OnePlus unveiled its first foldable smartphone in India. The smartphone is in direct rivalry with the Samsung Z Fold 5, which was introduced in July of this year and is the current market leader in the foldable smartphone market.
Features of the OnePlus Open:
The 7.82-inch Flexi-fluid AMOLED display on the OnePlus Open has a dynamic refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. A 6.31-inch Super Fluid AMOLED cover screen with a 10-120 Hz dynamic refresh rate is also included with the smartphone.
The Adreno 740 GPU and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor are the brains behind OnePlus’ most recent foldable device. The OnePlus Open has 512GB UFS 4.0 ROM and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM in terms of storage. The phone has a 4,805 mAh dual-cell battery that can be quickly charged with OnePlus’s 67W SUPERVOOC Charging.
The 48 MP Sony LYT-T808 lens on the OnePlus Open’s main camera has an f/1.7 aperture. The primary sensor includes capabilities for EIS, HDR, and optical image stabilization (OIS). Additionally, the foldable camera includes a 64 MP telephoto lens and a 48 MP ultra-wide sensor.
Four years of Android operating system upgrades and five years of security patches are also included with OnePlus’ foldable smartphone.
Samsung Z Fold 5 specifications
The 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. A 6.2-inch HD+ cover screen with Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display, 402ppi, and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate (48120Hz) is also available.
A 10MP selfie camera with an 85-degree Field of View (FOV) and a 4MP under-display camera are included with the Z Fold 5. A 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP wide angle camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera are all located on the back.
The smartphone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform and 12GB of RAM, and it comes in three storage variants: the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (256GB, 512GB, and 1TB).
The device has two 4,400mAh batteries that can be charged wired up to 50% in around 30 minutes using a 25W adapter. The power adapter will not be included. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has an IPX8 rating and is advertised as being water resistant for up to 30 minutes in waters up to 1.5 meters deep.
Samsung Z Fold 5 vs. OnePlus Open comparison:
Both smartphones have their own unique mix of drawbacks and benefits. While the Z Fold 5 has a 4,400 mAh battery and 25 W charging, the OnePlus Open has a 4805 mAh battery and 67 W fast charging. However, it does not enable wireless charging. In addition, the OnePlus foldable lacks compatibility for a stylus like the Z Fold 5’s S Pen and only offers IPX4 water resistance as opposed to the Z Fold 5’s IPX8 classification.
